Comment Policy

The purpose of this Blog is to create a dialogue that explores ways in which we all contribute to environmental protection. Our every action influences the environment. One ordinary action, collectively, produces extraordinary results. Both positive and negative. We encourage you to share your thoughts related to the topics being discussed.

This is a moderated blog. All comments will be reviewed before posting. We review and post comments according to this policy. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) reserves the right to modify this policy at any time.

We want to publish your comments, and we expect comments to be courteous. In addition, we expect that participants will treat each other, as well as our agency and our employees, with respect. We will not post comments that contain vulgar or abusive language, personal attacks of any kind, or offensive terms that target specific groups. We will not post comments that are spam, are clearly “off topic” or that promote commercial services or products. Comments that make accusations will also not be posted.

If you submit copyrighted or other proprietary material in any form, clearly indicate that you have permission to do so. By posting your comments or other work, you grant DEP, and anyone viewing the DEP blog, irrevocable permission to copy, distribute, make derivatives, display or perform the commenter’s work publicly and free-of-charge.

Your comments are welcome any time. Moderating and posting will take place during regular business hours. We will review and post comments as soon as possible on the next business day after you post your comment.

When you comment, we ask for your name and e-mail address, although providing either is optional. We publish your name along with your comment to make it easier to carry on a conversation. We ask for your e-mail address so that we can contact you if necessary. We do not publish your e-mail address on the blog. However, please be aware that Florida has a broad public records law. Most written communications to or from state officials regarding state business are public records available to the public and media upon request. Your e-mail communications may therefore be subject to public disclosure.

To protect your privacy, please do not send us confidential information. In addition, do not include information (e.g., e-mail address, phone number, Social Security number) that identifies you in the text of your comment. We will not intentionally post comments that contain Social Security numbers, personal addresses, e-mail address or phone numbers.

If you are a reporter, please send questions to the DEP Press Office rather than submitting questions as comments.  Reporter questions will not be posted on the blog and will not be forwarded to the Press Office.
